Choose Restoration Not Revenge, 2025
Hand-engraved mirror, wood framed 37 × 13 × 4 cm
from the Urban Prayers series
This work reflects on the sword as a symbol of choice rather than force. Positioned between downward restraint and upward aggression, the sword marks a threshold where power becomes a matter of ethical orientation.
Rather than depicting conflict, the work inhabits the space of decision: between revenge and restoration, reaction and responsibility.
The piece is part of the Urban Prayers series (initiated in 2021), in which contemporary language is interwoven with sacred texts to explore ritual, inner movement, and moral orientation within everyday life. The work was produced in temporal proximity to the 2025 corruption scandal in the Philippines, informing its ethical and symbolic framework.
Presented in a group exhibition; conceptually informed by a Sunday service at Open Table MCC, Manila.
