In Jesus Stampita (2026), Silke Lapina draws on the Catholic tradition of stampitas, small devotional images commonly carried, collected, or exchanged as expressions of faith and affection. The work consists of 100 signed and numbered prints per edition, made available to the public free of charge with a simple instruction: “Take one, then give it to someone you care about.”

The image derives from Lapina’s earlier work JESUS (2022), created in Berlin in collaboration with her close friend Nina. Following a mastectomy, Nina posed with her scars exposed, assuming the posture of the crucified Christ. Rooted in an intimate encounter between two friends, the image brings together questions of bodily vulnerability, suffering, care, and the presence of the sacred in everyday relationships.

The first edition of Jesus Stampita was distributed at Project Space Pilipinas in Lucban throughout September 2026, daily between 3 and 4 PM. This designated hour references the Catholic Three O’Clock Prayer, traditionally associated with the death of Christ. A second edition of 100 stampitas was produced for Lapina’s solo exhibition Alles zieht vorbei (2026) at the same venue.

Drawing on the tradition of Catholic devotional images, Jesus Stampita shifts the function of the religious image from an object of personal devotion toward a gesture of interpersonal connection. The work exists both as a physical image and through its circulation, allowing relationships between people to become part of its continuing form.

The idea for Jesus Stampita emerged during Lapina’s residency at Project Space Pilipinas in March 2026, following a request from Inana, a member of the Lucban artist community. Special thanks to Inana for the inspiration that brought this project to life.
