YOU+I=LIGHT, 2019. Interactive mirror and light installation

If people saw themselves as figures of light, how would this change our encounters? With this research question in mind, I designed the interactive light installation YOU+I=LIGHT. Visitors to the exhibition could see themselves as light figures in a gate. The light expanded when several light figures met.

YOU+I=LIGHT (2019) Interaktiver Spiegel und Lichtinstallation

Site-specific installation

YOU+I=LIGHT is a site-specific interactive installation developed in the context of the Adidas Future Studio, Berlin, in 2019. The work explores how altered forms of self-perception can transform human encounter.

Visitors see themselves reflected not as physical bodies, but as luminous figures of light. When multiple participants enter the space and encounter one another, the projected light expands, visually intensifying moments of proximity and relation.

The installation was later incorporated into the artist’s Master’s research in Religion and Culture at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Within the field of meditation research, the artist identified a lack of focused studies on Abrahamic religions, while noting that practices of light meditation can be found across Jewish, Christian, and Islamic traditions. YOU+I=LIGHT approaches light as a shared spiritual and relational principle, situated between artistic practice and interreligious inquiry.
