Confessio Triptych, 2024

Wood, Canvas, Acrylic , Synthetic Bitumen Ink, Decor Gold

1.90 x 1.90 m

This work examines writing as a spiritual, symbolic, and embodied practice. The triptych is composed of layered handwriting, musical notation, and abstract signs, positioning the work closer to a written image than a painted one. Referencing the Orthodox Christian understanding of icons as “written” narratives, the work integrates text, sound, and symbol into a structured visual language. The repeated symbols denote the male and female chromosomes (XY and XX), presented within the triptych as relational elements of a single body. Purple operates as a central chromatic field, associated with silence, transition, and repentance.

CONFESSIO is a completed body of work and forms part of a larger, conceptually linked series addressing theology, belief systems, desire, and personal conflict. The visual symbols are drawn from the artist’s own tattoos, extending inscription beyond the pictorial surface. While the work engages broader theological and cultural frameworks, it also maintains a personal dimension. The Latin title CONFESSIO refers simultaneously to confession of faith and confession of sins, framing the work within an unresolved ethical and spiritual tension.
